Well...the good news is...I haven't been eaten by a mosquito, bitten by a monkey, or broken a toe! (I'm accident prone!)
I have to say, as a non-medical person, this has been a VERY special experience. I think we've all come into this with many expectations, visions, thoughts, beliefs, etc.
As a super "runner" I was in charge of weighing babies, taking the patients to the "waiting chairs", to the physicians, to the pharmacy and just making sure they were taken care of. To take a family of 5 or 6 to 1 physician/physician assistant and have that physician and/or physician assistant say "come on...bring em' on!!!" and then fist pump me was one of the more impressive experiences I've ever had. Talk about teamwork and camaraderie!
Lessons that can't be learned, only experienced.
I can honestly say that the lack of showers, make up, blow dryers and add to that, heat, stinkiness, lizards in the room and ummm...hmm, how do I say this.....very interesting bathroom facilities, different smells (I'm the smeller), no AC, sweatiness (or glistening), etc., you might think all of this would kill the experience or feelings in my heart....but the faces, bight eyes and hopeful smiles were enough to actually cool my heart.
I'm in love with this country, the people in it and the people here with us helping to make their lives better.
Best experience EVER!!!
