We saw over 650 patients today in the schoolhouse! Most of the patients I saw were
children. I can’t believe how thankful
they were for the care I provided for them!
This was one of the most rewarding experiences in my life.
I went into this trip with the idea that I was going to provide care for an under served population and came out with so much more. I feel so grateful I was able to come here and give back something of myself. Having been through some big “ups and downs” in life, I understand and realize the inherent value of “giving back”. This medical mission trip allowed me to truly understand and experience why this is so important in life.

One patient in particular sticks out in my mind. She was a 15 year old girl who was actually
very healthy. She came in with a list of
complaints on her paper similar to others and I prescribed some medications for
her. While I was doing this, I noticed she
was interested in learning more about me and the other people in the room. She had an appetite for understanding who we
were and actually connecting with me.
It was this interest in connecting with me that made me realize she will most likely remember this interaction for her entire life. I could see that she couldn’t get enough…. Question after question turned into a 40 minute stay for her in the schoolhouse. She continued to talk to other staff members and made a day of it. I loved the idea that I made an impact in her life.
This is the type of feeling you can only get while helping someone. It can’t be planned. It was a great feeling. If you have ever considered doing something like this, I would highly recommend it.
