Three more bags and three more days!

8.09.2012

Most of the packing of supplies was completed by the tireless volunteers at Medwish. Our team went to their headquarters in Cleveland Tuesday evening to pick up our assigned bags of medical equipment and supplies. All of our checked bags are reserved for supplies while all personal effects for the week will be relegated to carry on backpacks. (Any of you who know Erin Waggoner understand her current shoe packing dilemma!)

Last night I got a call from Josh(Medwish's Executive Director) and he told me he was able to set up a hospital visit for any on our team interested in touring a Salvadorian ED. We were also invited to visit a pediatric nutrition center. The children in the nutrition center are often there because they suffer from severe malnutrition, a result of poverty.

I asked Josh if there were any donations needed or requested and he shared their need for school supplies (specifically for kindergarten aged kiddos) and new/gently used clothing.

So I headed to good ole Walmart and went on a little shopping spree.

I was able to fill three suitcases full of crayons, markers, pencils, paint, craft supplies calculators, rulers, paper, pens, tape, glue sticks and notebooks. I also picked up a couple of bumbo seats (great for core muscle strength for the babies), children's multivitamins, children's ibuprofen and acetaminophen, powdered pedialyte and a few dozen light sweatshirts

Josh also shared that we were light on suturing supplies...hoping to requisition some more before we leave!

Hasta luego, Lori
